It is a state of profound and utterly absorptive contemplation of the Absolute that is undisturbed by desire, anger, or any other ego-generated thought or emotion. It is a state of joyful calm, or even of rapture and beatitude. <strong><em>Samadhi <\/em><\/strong>is regarded as the climax of all spiritual and intellectual activity, which is the ultimate aim of Yoga.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Yoga has two branches, Hatha Yoga and Raj Yoga. <strong>Hatha yoga has seven parts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/shatkarma\/\">Shat karma<\/a> <\/em>(Six Cleansings) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/asanas\/\">Asana<\/a> <\/em>(Postures) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/mudras\/\">Mudras<\/a><\/em> <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/pranayama\/\">Pranayama<\/a> <\/em>(breathing exercises) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/pratyahara\/\">Pratyahara<\/a> <\/em>(Control of senses) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/dhyana\/\">Dhyana<\/a> <\/em>(Meditation) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/samadhi\/\">Samadhi<\/a><\/em> (a state of contemplation or trance) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raj yoga has eight parts (Asthanga yoga):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>Yama<\/em> <\/li>\n<li><em>Niyama<\/em> <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/asanas\/\">Asana<\/a> <\/em>(Postures) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/pranayama\/\">Pranayama<\/a> <\/em>(breathing exercises) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/pratyahara\/\">Pratyahara<\/a> <\/em>(Control of senses) <\/li>\n<li><em>Dharana<\/em> <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/dhyana\/\">Dhyana<\/a> <\/em>(Meditation) <\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ysaindia.org\/wordpress\/category\/hathayoga\/samadhi\/\">Samadhi<\/a><\/em> (a state of contemplation or trance) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The first five parts are called external aids to Yoga; the remaining three are purely mental or internal aids. As the ultimate goal of both the branches is the <em>Samadhi<\/em>, so a reader may find a few aspects common in both the branches.
